Brutons the Bakers was established in Cardiff by Harry Windsor Bruton.

In 1946, the bakery moved to its present location in Grangetown. Four generations of the Bruton family were at the helm before retirement in 2002, when the Best family took over the business.

Members of the Best family had already been working for Brutons for more than 20 years. Today, the company continues to be managed by members of the Best family and remains an independent family business.

Three quarters of the way along Holmesdale Street was Brutons Bakers. Olive Bruton wore her hair in the style of flapper girls of the 20s. Queues formed outside this shop at 6.45am in the morning and by the time the shop opened at 8am the queue would be about 50 yards long. The shop had sold out by 10am.
